PLACES AND OBJECTS

Large forest cover and the existence of several rivers and lakes make that forests of the Babimost Forest District are attractive to both individual tourists as well as tourists groups. All forest areas are made available to individual tourists. They have an opportunity to reach scenic and picturesque places that are valuable in terms of nature, where they are unlikely to make damage.

The area located within the boundaries of Zielona Góra and Świebodzin counties is of particular touristic values. Its attractiveness is enhanced by  quite a dense network of roads connecting  numerous forest complexes with open areas of great scenic values.  The area of the Babimost Forest District is characteristic for its large forest cover, thus the main tourist attraction of this area is the opportunity to pick mushrooms and other produces of undergrowth.

Every year the District makes its sites available to scouts' camps, namely the area at Wąchaby and Liny lakes.

Apart from that, tourists can also enjoy resting on the camping site at Liny Lake or follow the interpretive trail in the "Laski" nature reserve.

A great value of the area analyzed here is its good communication network, low population density and pro-environmental and friendly policy of the local self-governments towards tourist business investors.

Development of tourism within the territory of the surrounding communes refers mainly to agro-tourism, recreational and adventure tourism. Several tourist facilities offer various form of leisure: hiking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing, whereas for hunters  there are numerous attractive and rich in wild game hunting areas.

In this area one can find plenty of natural monuments (trees, tree groups), valuable sites designed for natural succession, park type forest stands and the variety of protected, rare and endangered animal and plant species. The territory  of the Forest District also comprises areas classified by the government as birds habitats under the European network NATURA 2000. The District is also provided with good tourist infrastructure such as car parks, stopping places, educational-interpretive trails, tourist trails and cycling  paths.

The Forest District Babimost,  apart from large forest complexes, offers  wonderful nature, diversified landscape forms and  numerous recreational sites. This is ensured by the natural environment itself but also by tourist facilities  improving year by year. Tourists have an opportunity to encounter many  natural monuments (trees, tree groups), valuable sites designed for natural succession, park type forest stands and the variety of protected, rare and endangered animal and plant species. The territory  of the Forest District also comprises areas classified by the government as birds habitats under the European network NATURA 2000.

The territory of the Babimost Forest District is crossed by routes of four tourist trails, namely:

- red trail - Łomnica, Strzyżewo, Dąbrówka Wlkp., Chlastawa, Kosieczyn –15,5 km long,

- red trail - Kosieczyn, Nowa Wieś Zbąska, Perzyny, Przyprostynia, Zbąszyń – 16,5 km long,

- blue trail - Nowa Wieś, Nądnia, Zbąszyń -  7,5 km long,

- black trail - Zbąszyń, Lutol Mokry - 3 km long,

- yellow trail  - Zbąszynek Railway Station  - Babimost Railway Station  - 15 km long.

Zbąszynek – railway bridge – towards  Nowy Gościniec – nature reserve (Kręcki Łęg) Kręcko - Kręcka Winnica - Podmokle Małe – nature reserve  (Laski) - (Commune of  Babimost).    

Along educational trails there are facilities where tourists can make campfire, provided  that earlier they obtain a permission of the Ranger's alert and disposition post.

Forests belonging to the Babimost Forest District are located on the territory of two provinces and two different regions: Lubuski and Wielkopolska.

Within the Lubuski Province the area covered by the Forest District  belongs to the counties of Zielona Góra, Świebodzin and Międzyrzecz and the communes of  Babimost, Kargowa, Sulechów, Świebodzin, Szczaniec, Zbąszynek, Trzciel; in the Wielkopolska Province they are in the counties of Wolsztyn and Nowy Tomyśl and belong to the communes of  Siedlec  and  Zbąszyń. Big forest complexes comprised by the above-mentioned administrative areas are rather uniform in terms of the landscape, though there are numerous charming spots with recreational values located there forming habitats of many rare fauna and flora species. The Forest District Babimost is a part of the Regional Directorate of the State Forests  in Zielona Góra. The area of the district amounts to  48 337 ha, and the forest cover is  35 %.

The total area of the Babimost Forest District is  16 022,93 ha.

The District consists of three divisions:

- Dąbrówka - 3950,37 ha,

- Kargowa - 5562,31 ha,

- Szczaniec - 6510,25 ha.
